Spruce up your home with these 7 decor tips!
When we talk about home interiors we know it’s not going to be an easy one. In the era of pinterest and instagram where we’re bombarded with too many choices it makes the task even more difficult.
The best way forward is to have a structure first and then experiment. Our interior design experts have drawn up a list of few decor items which can be the starting point of your journey towards home decor.
Chandeliers are for everyone!
Yes, gone are the days when chandeliers could only be hung in living rooms. Think, entryways, dining hall, bathroom or even the kitchen. Our interior designer Rina says unconventional places such as bedroom, kitchen etc. are great to show off your pretty chandelier and make it the centre of attraction. Mind you, they’re decorative items not well known for their lighting abilities though. Whichever chandelier you choose, decide on the location and how much of lighting you get before you take the final call.
The wall is your canvas
Get your walls to tell a story. Stories spoken through pictures of your childhood, the things you like and places you travelled to. Use your windowless wall to do the talking, spice it up with frames in different sizes and go wild. Not a fan of multiple photos? Go for a stunning artwork, tapestry or even a tribal wall art. Make sure, you highlight your art well with good light.
The art of timekeeping
Losing the track of time? Get yourself an old school railway clock. Let nostalgia take precedence in your interiors if you’re a 80s child, when long journeys meant gazing at giant railway clocks. Our interior designer, Soham recommends a visit to your local antique store for old school cool. Big minimalistic clocks go with interior decor that oozes Nordic influence. Clocks not only make good statement pieces, they also have a function which we all seek.
Get charmed by rugs
Rugs have an intrinsic quality which brings in certain kind of aesthetic beauty to a room. You don’t have to go for a big rug and cover up the entire room only to find out that it’s difficult to clean and the room has suddenly shrunk in size. Rugs are available in different sizes, so, go for one which complements your room. If you’re going for one, make sure its border touches your furniture’s legs or the front two legs rest on it. Patterned rugs work quite well in homes with bohemian vibes, plain comfy rugs work well in heavily patterned interiors (upholstery, curtains etc.). The best thing is to experiment and see what works best for the room.
If your love for books in unparalleled just like ours, then drop everything and find an empty wall in your home. Don’t just keep books there; make way for your Tinting toy figurine, succulents and collectibles from around the world. Color the shelves according to the theme of your home. Paint them in bright colors to highlight your prized possession or keep it muted and classy like a library. You can either make it wall to wall or just mount those books on the trendy wall-shelves (ready made) which take up lesser space.
Display your collectibles
Avid traveler or not, we all love collecting things. Things like an interesting bust, Ganesha idol, wall hanging, blue pottery vase, Portuguese style cabinet etc. should never be stored for later. Our interior designer Rina suggests, display them as a focal point in a room. For example, if you have a bust, keep it in a place where it gains prominence and underplay other decor items, for ex, don’t keep a plant near it or too many objects around it, it takes the focus away. This way, you can decide where to keep what and how (go beyond living room).
Have you ever noticed larger than life mirrors in palaces, five star hotels? How they command respect, add allure, depth and grandeur to the room. This is exactly why our interior designer Rina recommends the use of mirror in your home decor especially areas like entryway, living room and bedroom. Never go for huge mirrors if your room is small, group it with smaller things to add drama. These days’ mirrors come in interesting frames which it brings in much needed personality to your home. Go ahead, find one which goes with your personal style or even the theme of your room and see the transformation that happens.
While we wrap up the topic with these 7 examples, there’s one thing for sure, doing up your home is the most satisfying thing in the world. It gives you a chance to showcase your individual and family’s influences, design sensibilities in a unique way. If you need a bit of a help in figuring out things, our designers will be happy to help. Happy decorating!
